NDP critic says difficulties at a Sunshine Coast bus company an example of bigger issues

The NDP’s Coastal Economic Development critic is pointing to the situation with the only private bus company on the Sunshine Coast as an example of the consequences of cuts and schedule changes at BC Ferries.

Malaspina Coach Lines has suspended the route between Powell River and Vancouver, and MLA Nicholas Simons says problems with schedules and escalating fares are putting financial pressure on the company.

Simons says it’s also putting a vital service in jeopardy, and it could happen in other coastal communities.

Simons says the government could have seen situations like this coming if it had followed the NDP’s call for full economic impact studies on fare hikes and sailing cuts at Ferries.

Simons has written the Transportation Minister about the issue, and he’s copied local governments at both ends of the Sunshine Coast
