Herd Road re-opens to public traffic after months of construction

Herd Road will be opening to traffic again after being closed to accommodate two major projects in North Cowichan.

The road has been closed since May 20 to build a new roundabout at Bell McKinnon and Herd Road, as well as replace the bridge deck at Richards Creek.

According to the municipality, both projects were completed on schedule and were done at the same time to cause as little impact to residents and businesses in the area.

They say the projects were a major undertaking, but it’s a relief to have them completed.

“The bridge deck replacement included surface repairs, rebar replacement, new bridge railings and deck joints, and upgrades to the south pier diaphragm, pile coating, and other structural components,” the municipality says. “The roundabout was constructed as part of the Cowichan District Hospital replacement project.”

The municipality extends their thanks to everyone who endured the construction and detours during construction.
