BC Transit says handyDart service to resume on Monday, other service to follow

BC Transit says handyDART service in the Cowichan Valley is to resume on Monday, September 29, 2025, and customers can begin booking trips immediately.

As for bus service, BC Transit says that’s still to be determined for routes within the Cowichan Valley, and the Route 66 buses between Duncan and Victoria, and route 99 buses between Shawnigan Lake and Victoria.

BC Transit says all buses must undergo a thorough inspection, necessary maintenance, cleaning, and on-road testing before they can return to service.

Operators will also refresh their training before service resumes.

On September 18, Unifor announced an agreement between itself and Transdev to accept binding recommendations from provincially appointed mediator Vince Ready.

Unifor agreed to end the strike that had lasted more than seven months prior to the release of Ready’s recommendations, which are expected in the coming weeks.

The 44 members of Local 114, which represents transit operators, cleaners and mechanics, and Local 333-BC, which represents eight handyDART operators, began their strike on February 8th.
