The NDP’s critic for BC Ferries is wondering why the ferry company isn’t just dropping fares permanently, instead of offering “promotions”.

Ferries announced last week it will offer a 50 per cent discount on vehicle fees for select, off-peak, sailings. They’ve already done something similar for passenger fares.

Claire Trevena is the MLA for North Island.

Ferries CEO Mike Corrigan says what they saw with the passenger fare discounts shows offering the lower fares on specific sailings could encourage people to travel when traffic is light – leading to fewer overloads.
