Cowichan Women Against Violence looking to build supportive housing units
The Cowichan Women Against Violence Society is looking to help women and children leaving abusive situations by creating housing specially tailored for their needs.
Executive Director Jane Sterk says they are planning to build 20 safe and affordable units for those who need a couple of years to find their footing.
She says the idea is to go beyond just providing a roof over their heads, by offering different types of support.
Sterk says they are still in the planning stage of the project and it will take 2-3 years for the housing to be complete. The society is having a gala on November 7th at the Cowichan Exhibition to raise money.
