The first-ever State of the Island Economic Report has been released by the Vancouver Island Economic Alliance. The unveiling capped off VIEA’s annual economic summit in Nanaimo.
Economist Susan Mowbry with MNP says the report takes a close look at economic trends and opportunities right across the island.
She says the education sector has grown significantly due to international enrollments.
Between 2010 and 2013, the number of international students enrolled in post-secondary institutions and K-12 schools grew by 32%.
Mowbry says the number of international enrollments is expected to keep growing on the island, but at a slightly slower pace in the next few years.
