Demonstrators stage blockade at SIA

There was another blockade at South Island Aggregates on Monday.

The company is running a controversial contaminated soil dump, and the protesters were trying to stop the delivery of a new shipment being barged over from the mainland and trucked down from Nanaimo.

Calvin Cook is president of the Shawnigan Residents Association, which is fighting the company and the province in court.

Last Friday the group filed yet another court challenge, asking for a temporary suspension of the company’s permits while various cases — including one launched by the Cowichan Valley Regional District — work their way through the courts.
