One person killed in multi-vehicle crash that shuts down Malahat

West Shore RCMP say one person is dead after a multi-vehicle crash on the Malahat on Wednesday morning.

Cst. Alex Berube speaks on behalf of the detachment.

Berube says the highway is now open after it was shut down for hours in both directions south of Mill Bay between Shawnigan Lake Road and Goldstream Provincial Park.

There was no detour available during the closure because a mechanical issue forced BC Ferries to cancel the Mill Bay to Brentwood ferry for the day.

RCMP South Island Traffic Services and a traffic analyst are also the investigating the accident.
