More people are calling North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP

The mayor of Duncan says more people are making 911 calls in the area.

Phil Kent says improvements to programs dealing with prolific offenders and domestic abuse, for instance, are helping people know when and how to report incidents.

He says North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP Staff Sergeant Adrian Marsden recently informed Council of a jump in calls during the summer.

Kent says although there is a bump in police activity, Council is hoping that means better outcomes per situation and a better response by the Crown and judicial system as well.

The detachment says by the end of the year they will have got around 17,000 calls, which is about a thousand more than 2014.
