The Ministry of Environment has warned South Island Aggregates owner Cobble Hill Holdings it’s considering a reduction or suspension of operations at a contaminated soil dump near Shawnigan Lake.

The Ministry sent a letter on Wednesday, November 18th, outlining its’ concerns as a follow-up to last week’s suspected breach at the SIA site.

The CVRD Director for Shawnigan Lake is Sonia Furstenau. She says it was only a matter of time before a big problem came up.

The Ministry says it has received a response from the company and it’s currently under consideration.

Meanwhile, the company says the site is routinely monitored, and all the water management requirements are being observed.
