Former North Cowichan councillor awarded Freedom of the Municipality

North Cowichan Council has awarded a former councillor with the highest honour that can be given out by a municipality.

Mayor Jon Lefebure says George Seymour has been given the Freedom of the Municipality award, which is given to somebody that helps improve the community.

He says this is only the 10th time since North Cowichan was established in 1873 that it has been handed out.

Some of Seymour’s accomplishments include establishing the Cowichan Garry Oak Preserve near Duncan and taking a leading role in developing the municipality’s first OCP.
