Cowichan Valley set to open its’ doors to first Syrian refugee family

The first Syrian refugee family will be arriving in the Cowichan Valley on Monday.

The Cowichan Intercultural Society is spearheading the movement to welcome and support refugees coming to the area.

Executive Director Lynn Weaver says the family of three is being sponsored by the Mill Bay Baptist Fellowship. She says others have stepped up as well.

Weaver says there will be a meeting on Thursday at 2pm at the VIU Cowichan Campus to address some needs of incoming refugees, including permanent housing.
