Shawnigan residents encouraged to write PM, others about SIA site

It’s not the way that Shawnigan Lake residents planned to spend their holidays but the community continues to stand together against a contaminated soil dump near the lake.

That area’s CVRD Director Sonia Furstenau says hundreds of people met on Tuesday night, December 8th, at the community centre to talk about how they can protect their watershed.

She says it’s time to get the federal government involved because the province doesn’t seem to want to listen.

In the meantime, protests at the South Island Aggregates site continue as operations are ongoing despite calls from the CVRD, and others, that the permit has been violated.
