Locals meet to voice their concerns about proposed Malahat LNG project

The Shawnigan Lake Community Centre was busy again on Wednesday night as people met to voice their concerns about the proposed Malahat LNG project.

UVic instructor and Divest Victoria Co-Chair Laurel Collins, who spoke at the meeting, says building a floating facility in Bamberton will cause several big problems.

Collins says a one myth about LNG projects is that they create local jobs. She says, however, that’s not the case as many of the specialty positions are filled by temporary foreign workers.

Collins says using alternatives like wind and solar power, not to mention reducing usage, are better options than LNG.
