BC Ferries is testing the idea of reservations for walk-ons.
Ferries launched the pilot project today (Friday) on the Tsawwassen-Southern Gulf Islands route; the milk-run that serves Salt Spring, Galiano, Saturna, Pender and Mayne Islands.
Darin Guenette of BC Ferries says that route sees a lot more foot passenger traffic than any other route.
Guenette says for now walk-ons can only make a reservation leaving Tsawwassen. He says it’s a bit too complicated for now to do it on the return journey because of all the pick-up and drop off points.
The pilot project will run until September 7th.
