The only Conservative MP to support a private members bill on derelict vessels from Nanaimo Cowichan’s Jean Crowder, says he expects his own bill on the issue to get first reading soon.
John Weston says he supported Crowder’s bill, which didn’t pass, to send a message from his constituents in West Vancouver Sunshine Coast, and keep the issue in the spotlight.
Weston’s bill will take a different approach than Crowder’s effort to make the Coast Guard the lead agency for dealing with derelicts.
Weston says even though MPs will break for summer soon, with an election to follow, the bill could get first reading before then.
