Solar Workshop
December 1, 2023 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
FreePRESS RELEASE: FREE SOLAR WORKSHOP:
WHO: COWICHAN CARBON BUSTERS:
WHEN: DEC 1, 7.30 PM,
WHERE: HERITAGE HALL, COWICHAN COMMUNITY CENTRE, DUNCAN
The Cowichan Carbon Busters recently presented North Cowichan Municipality with a request to increase the solar energy component of its “Climate Action and Energy Plan”. And we have organised a free solar workshop for the public anywhere in Cowichan, with its mayor, Rob Douglas, as keynote speaker.
This workshop will show citizens how to participate in BC Hydro’s existing net-metering program – putting solar panels on rooftops. With existing government rebates, the ROI (return on investment) will be about 8.7% – so solar is a good investment, not a cost. And citizen-powered electricity injected into BC Hydro’s grid can replace fossil fuel energy – allowing individuals to contribute towards lowering the impacts of climatic disasters such as forest fires, floods and droughts.
The workshop will include expert presentations on carbon emissions, financial details on solar panel installation, contractor booths, and a question and answer period. If individuals do not own a roof, they could advocate for solar co-ops in apartments or condos, or ask local governments to create a public solar utility – like existing publicly-owned hydro dams.
The Cowichan Carbon Busters are volunteers, we do not profit from this campaign.
