Brontë: The World Without
Bronte Goes to Mainstage!
Congratulations to director Sylvia Swift, producers Mony and Rien Vesseur, and the cast and crew of Jordi Mand’s Bronte: The World Without on winning Outstanding ( Best) Production at Theatre BC’s South Island Festival , held in May at Ladysmith Little Theatre! This fascinating story of the pioneering literary careers of Charlotte, Emily and Anne Bronte (played by Genevieve Charbonneau, Julia Lalonde and Zoe Nickerson) will now proceed to Theatre BC’s Mainstage July 6-12 at Fort St. John, where our group will compete against some of the best community theatre in the province.
We’re staging additional fund raising performances of our Bronte show for travel to and accommodation at Mainstage, which Sylvia describes as “a wonderful opportunity to get constructive feedback from theatre professionals, helping us tweak and better our craft.” Mainstage will also give Mercury Players a chance to make valuable connections with the BC Theatre Community.
Don’t miss out on the last chance to see this very moving portrayal of the iconic Bronte Sisters who, while struggling with poverty and caring for their ailing male relatives, challenged societal expectations for women in the 19th century. Their path to success was paved with sibling rivalry, jealousy and deep love for each other. The show features the beautiful works of Cowichan watercolour artist, Jennifer Lawson, and the music of English folk group, Unthanks, who have set Emily Bronte’s poems to music.
Bronte: The World Without runs Thursday June 26 (by donation), Saturday June 28 (with silent auction fundraiser) and Sunday June 29. All shows at 7:30 pm. $25 General Admission/$20 Students/Seniors. All performances at Heritage Hall at Duncan United Church 246 Ingram Street, Duncan BC.
