North Cowichan Council Extinguishes Any Thoughts of Outdoor Smoking Bylaw

North Cowichan council discussed introducing an outdoor smoking bylaw at its meeting earlier this week.
The motion was defeated because the Cowichan Valley Regional District already has a similar bylaw that takes in the entire region.
The Municipality of North Cowichan Mayor, Jon Lefebure says the existing bylaw is old but plans to update it are in the works.

Lefebure says drafting an additional bylaw would have created overlapping bylaws that do the same thing.

Lefebure says council agreed that it didn’t make sense to create a bylaw that would require taxpayer money when the C.V.R.D. bylaw encompasses the entire regional district.
