BC Ferry cut-off times used to keep passengers safe, ships on time

Ferry travellers are asking, once again, why BC Ferries has those 10 minute cut-offs for buying tickets. The questions resurfaced after a video of a woman losing her cool when she missed a sailing by 1 minute caused a big stir on social media.

Deborah Marshall of BC Ferries says they started the cut-off policy for safety reasons and to keep the ships running on time.

Marshall says ticket agents have some, but not much, leeway and the call about when to cut off sales is made by the terminal control tower. She says, in the case of the woman in the video, the ticket agent did contact the control tower to see if they could make an exception in her case… which, unfortunately for her, they could not.
