Stakeholders gather in North Cowichan to discuss potential tariff impacts

Economic Development Cowichan says it’s important to support local businesses and take proactive steps to mitigate potential tariff impacts.

In a statement, they say new policies will be taking effect soon to help keep businesses updated with the latest information, resources and support programs.

They say trade conditions are always changing, and it’s important Cowichan businesses adapt in the least stressful way possible to help them stay vibrant.

“We aim to equip the Cowichan community with the tools needed to adapt to evolving trade conditions and strengthen economic resilience within the region,” they say.

North Cowichan mayor Rob Douglas says several issues were brought forward to help the region remain resilient, and through discussion, improvements were suggested on how all stakeholders can make sure support is given.

“Issues were raised during our meeting, whether that’s how we can improve our processes at the municipal level or continue to advocate to the federal and provincial governments,” he says.

Discussions also included members from the provincial government, Community Futures, and several owners from the Chemainus Industrial Park.
