Heavy rain set to soak Vancouver Island through Friday

Vancouver Island residents are being advised to brace for a series of atmospheric rivers expected to impact most of the region through the end of the week.

According to the B.C. Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness, heavy rain is expected to prompt flood watches along the central coast and advisories across much of the Island until March 20.

The ministry said storms will be intermittent and, while rainfall is not expected to intensify, conditions will continue to be monitored closely.

“Northern and Western Vancouver Island aren’t expected to escalate, but the River Forecast Centre is monitoring streamflows closely,” the ministry said.

Residents are advised to watch for ground saturation, high streamflows, unstable banks, river erosion and submerged roads.

No evacuation orders or alerts are currently in place, but residents are urged to remain prepared and follow direction from emergency officials if conditions worsen.
