Investigation launched into Thunderbird motel fire

A charred vehicle is all that remains of a fire that broke out at the Thunderbird Motel in Duncan after it ignited during the overnight hours on Friday.

There has been no official word from North Cowichan/Duncan R-C-M-P, or the fire officials as to the cause of the blaze.

Police have confirmed it happened at 2:30 a.m., and that investigation is underway to determine the cause and extent of the damage to the other vehicles.

In a social media post, Duncan mayor Michelle Staples says she’s grateful there were no injuries in the blaze.

The motel is located on York Road.
