Vancouver Island drought conditions slightly improve after rainfall

The B.C. government has published its latest Drought and Water Scarcity Bulletin, with data current to July 23.

The report shows east Vancouver Island, from Campbell River to Victoria, is at Level 3 on the province’s drought severity scale, with Level 5 being the most severe.

That marks an improvement after the region remained at Level 4 for more than a month.

The west coast of Vancouver Island, including Port Hardy, Tofino and Port Renfrew, and the South Coast, which includes the Sunshine Coast, are at Level 2.

“Recent rainfall and thunderstorms have improved drought conditions in parts of the province, providing some relief for Vancouver Island, areas of the South Coast and southeast B.C.,” said the report.

The report said hot and dry weather is expected to persist across the southern Interior this week.

The next bulletin is scheduled for release July 30.
