The Town of Lake Cowichan is reminding residents and visitors to respect the campfire ban currently in effect.
The town said wildfire risk in the region remains very high despite recent rainfall across Vancouver Island.
The town said it is following restrictions established by the B.C. Wildfire Service and the ban will remain in effect until further notice.
Meanwhile, some Lake Cowichan firefighters have been deployed to the Interior to assist communities affected by wildfires.
“The Town and other communities have deployed fire fighting resources to assist municipalities facing serious wildfire situations,” said a statement from the town. “Resources are also being drawn from other jurisdictions across the province and country as well. With personnel and equipment already deployed, our local resources could quickly become stretched if a significant incident occurs in our area.”
The town is asking residents to help protect the community, firefighters and neighbouring communities by complying with the campfire ban until it is lifted.
