Latest drought bulletin shows no changes for Vancouver Island, Sunshine Coast

The B.C. government has released its latest Drought and Water Scarcity Bulletin, with data collected up to Aug. 6.

Locally, drought conditions remain unchanged from last week, with East Vancouver Island rated at Level 2 on the drought severity index. West Vancouver Island and the South Coast, including the Sunshine Coast, remain at Level 0.

The report says variable conditions continue across the coastal region, and below-normal groundwater levels remain a concern in parts of East Vancouver Island and the South Coast.

Looking ahead, no precipitation is expected through the southern third of the province next week, while dry lightning is expected in the central and southern Interior through the weekend.

The next Drought and Water Scarcity Bulletin is scheduled for Aug. 13.
