The Cowichan Housing Association is moving forward with a pair of affordable housing projects in the region.
A statement from the Cowichan Valley Regional District said the projects include an 18-unit transitional care facility in Duncan for adults recovering from substance use, as well as a proposed affordable seniors’ rental building in Mill Bay.
The Duncan facility received a development permit in January and the association is working on a building permit application.
Plans call for the project to provide a substance-free, staged recovery environment, including support for Indigenous people and people with disabilities.
In Mill Bay, the proposed seniors’ building would include subsidized, below-market, rent-geared-to-income and market rental units.
The CVRD’s Regional Housing Service is providing funding to support the projects.
“Together, these projects reflect CHA’s continued focus on practical, community-based housing solutions that respond to local needs while supporting vulnerable residents, seniors and long term housing stability across the region,” said the regional district in a statement.
The Regional Housing Service was established in 2018 to help fund affordable housing and homelessness prevention programs in the region.
