North Cowichan hopes new disc golf course is an “ace”

Local disc golfers have a new place to play in the Cowichan Valley.

North Cowichan Mayor Rob Douglas said the new Fuller Lake Disc Golf Course opened last week.

“The course was developed on underutilized municipal land beside Fuller Lake Arena, with the municipality providing site preparation, construction and infrastructure improvements in partnership with the Cowichan Valley Disc Golf Club and other community partners,” said Douglas.

The project received contributions from the Rotary Club of Chemainus and several local businesses. INdesign Disc Golf, in partnership with the Cowichan Valley Disc Golf Club, designed the 18-hole course.

Municipal staff are excited to see the new course come to life.

“The Cowichan Valley Disc Golf Club has put in thousands of hours and organized dozens of volunteer work parties to bring the course to life,” said Shaun Mason, director of parks, recreation and forestry. “Their efforts, along with support from local businesses and the Rotary Club of Chemainus, have helped to significantly reduce overall construction costs. By working together, we’ve created a championship level disc golf course and another outstanding recreation amenity for our parks system.”

The municipality said the course is open to all ages and skill levels.
