Cowichan Valley Youth Services receives $15,000 grant

A Cowichan Valley-based organization is receiving $15,000 from the Tru Charitable Foundation.

Cowichan Valley Youth Services is receiving the money through the Island Savings Regional Community Endowment as part of a three-year funding commitment totalling $45,000.

“Strong communities are built by organizations that understand local needs and are deeply connected to the people they serve,” said Tracy Fortino, executive director of the Tru Charitable Foundation. “We are proud to invest in the people and organizations working every day to create healthier, more resilient, and more inclusive communities.”

A joint statement from the two organizations said the funding will support CVYS’s Connect Attachment Program, which helps strengthen relationships between youth and their caregivers.

“By helping caregivers better understand and respond to their pre-teens and/or teens, communication improves, conflict is reduced, and youth mental wellness is better supported,” said Zoe Lauckner, executive director of Cowichan Valley Youth Services.

The Tru Charitable Foundation said it is investing $1.839 million this year through 19 endowments to support registered charities in 34 B.C. communities.

The Island Savings Regional Community Endowment is administered by the Tru Charitable Foundation and provides grants to charities in communities served by Island Savings.

The foundation said additional grants will be distributed later this year.
