Most CVRD water systems downgraded to Stage 1

Most Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) water systems moved to Stage 1 restrictions Thursday, Oct. 1, as cooler and wet fall weather began, the regional district said.

Under Stage 1, sprinkling is allowed for a maximum of two hours, two days a week, between 7 p.m. and 9 a.m., the CVRD said. Even-numbered addresses can sprinkle Wednesdays, while odd-numbered addresses can do so Sundays.

Dogwood Ridge remains at Stage 2, while Woodley Range is permanently at Stage 3, according to the CVRD.

“Hand-watering, micro/drip irrigation subject to daily maximum for food or ornamental gardens is allowed,” said the regional district. “Watering in the morning or evening is always best as it reduces water lost to evaporation.”

The CVRD said Stage 1 water-use restrictions remain in effect annually until Oct. 31.
