It is with great excitement that we announce the 89.7 Sun FM 5th Annual Radiothon.
On June 19th & 20th, 2025, 89.7 Sun FM will be hosting a fundraiser in support of Nourish Cowichan Society. This homegrown organization is now considered one of the best school food programs in the province.
We will be live on location at the Old Farm Market on Chaster Road from 6am – 6pm each day, taking donations. We are proud to say that in the last four years, we have raised over $180,000!
Nourish Cowichan has seen the number of children requiring a meal increase by over 35% this school year due to the continued increase in the cost of living. More families are now accessing the program. Nourish Cowichan has 3 full-time staff, 3 part-time staff, and a dedicated team of over 70 volunteers that help make all of this magic happen.
Here are some astounding statistics in a time that is very difficult for many:
- Nourish Cowichan supports approximately 2700 students in 23 schools, offering breakfast, lunch, snacks, as well as a weekend grocery bag to students
- Nourish provided 720,000 meals last year
- 2022/2023 school year, 12,473 weekend
grocery bags - 2023/2024 school year, 17,060 weekend
grocery bags - 2024/2025 school year estimated number is 19,000.
This year, for the first time, the operating cost was over $1,300,000.00
In the past 2 years, half of their funding has come from the provincial government. Although much investment has come from the government, most non-profit organizations still need to subsidize the remainder of their budget with multiple fundings from the private sector. Your amazing contributions have contributed to the sustainability and growth of Nourish’s work in our community.
How can we help?
Businesses are invited to step up to sponsor one hour of the Radiothon. The minimum bid will start at $500, where you will own that hour on the radio waves.
For every $250 donated over the $500 starting bid, you and a colleague/partner are invited to tour and have a delicious lunch at Nourish Kitchen, and your business will be entered to win a fabulous catered lunch from Nourish Cowichan for up to 10 people.
