Allenby Road repairs enter second phase to restore two-way traffic

Repairs to Allenby Road will move into a second phase later this month to complete slope stabilization work.

The Ministry of Transportation and Transit said work will begin April 13 and will restore the road to full two-lane traffic once complete. Detours will be in place during construction, but businesses will remain open.

“Drivers should use Highway 1 as an alternative route and are encouraged to plan ahead and follow the direction of traffic-control personnel,” the province said in a media release.

The province said the project will be co-ordinated with Cowichan Tribes and the public will be notified when the work is complete.

Phase two of construction includes removing temporary traffic signals, permanent slope stabilization and additional safety improvements.

The road was damaged in 2021 after flooding caused significant damage in the area.

The closure is expected to remain in effect until the fall.
