Motorists are advised to expect traffic delays and allow extra travel time if they use Canada Avenue as part of their daily commute.

The City of Duncan and the Municipality of North Cowichan will begin Phase 2 upgrades to Canada Avenue.

The city said the work will increase traffic congestion but detours will be available where needed.

“Detours will change as the project progresses,” the city said. “Advanced notice and detour information will be provided.”

The next phase includes replacing two aging bridges over branches of Bings Creek north and south of the Cowichan Tribes building, along with channel replacements at the inlet and outlet of the box culverts.

Work will begin next month and is expected to continue until spring 2027.

The project has received $1,875,726 from the federal government’s Active Transportation Fund. North Cowichan will receive just over $1.1 million and Duncan will receive $737,463.

More information, including a full list of improvements, is available on the city’s website.
