Cowichan Search and Rescue hosting recruitment open house Thursday

Cowichan Search and Rescue is recruiting its next group of volunteers.

The local search-and-rescue organization is hosting an open house Thursday, May 14, for people interested in training and to learn about a course expected to run from this fall through spring 2027.

SAR manager Mitch Wright said the open house gives potential recruits a chance to learn about the organization and its work.

“We’re planning a new intake of trainees starting next fall, so this is an opportunity for people who are interested or have been thinking about applying to come down, find out who we are, what we do,” said Wright.

He said the event will provide an overview of training and operations.

“We’re going to have a bit of a slideshow introduction of some pictures and videos from the last year or so, just explaining what’s involved in training, what’s involved in certain tasks, various equipment that we have,” said Wright.

Wright added the event will also include a question-and-answer session.

The open house runs Thursday, May 14, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Duncan Fire Hall.
