Good Lads celebrate win at Valley Battle of the Bands

The Good Lads from Shawnigan Lake School have been named top band at the first Valley Battle of the Bands held at Red Arrow Brewing.

They took first place in the competition on Saturday after performing three songs in front of a packed crowd. Band member Max Fawcett said winning was unexpected.

“We haven’t been a band for very long and we’ve been working super hard this year,” he said. “We’re a high-energy hard-rock band and we’ve been having fun all year.”

Fawcett said much of the band’s musical inspiration comes from Billy Idol, which suited their approach to music and performance.

“It suited our hard-rock, high-energy style,” Fawcett said. “It also inspired our style and our original track based on high energy.”

Other band members shared their enthusiasm for the win on Saturday. Daniel Hill said their work and dedication to music has paid off.

“It’s an honour to win in front of all these amazing bands and to be put as the best. It really sets us apart,” Hill said. “Next year we have to work harder and get it done. Hopefully we’ll be defending champions.”

Both men said the Good Lads plan to improve and take feedback from judges to build on their skills for next year and continue developing what they described as a strong foundation.

Four other bands took the stage, including Core Four, Dead Musicians Society, Burnout and Never Liked Names on May 30.
