Duncan Fire is inviting residents interested in serving and protecting their community to attend a recruitment and information session.
Applications are now being accepted for paid-on-call firefighters to serve Duncan and the Cowichan Valley. Recruits will receive training in fire suppression as well as public education on fire safety and prevention.
Applicants must be at least 19 years old, legally able to work in Canada, and hold a valid B.C. driver’s licence. They must also be available for weekly training sessions on Wednesday evenings.
Firefighter Kelsey Scholz said being part of the fire department has helped her step outside her comfort zone and build self-confidence.
“If you don’t believe you can, it will hold you back,” she said. “I am five feet and I can do it, if you go for it there’s nothing holding you back, people are supportive. Even if you make a mistake, you try again.”
Information sessions will be held June 10 at 7 p.m. at the fire hall.
The deadline to apply is June 28.
More information is available on Duncan Fire’s website or by calling 250-746-5211.
