The Municipality of North Cowichan said municipal forest reserve access gates are now closed for the summer to reduce the risk of wildfires.
The closure restricts vehicle access to Mount Prevost, Mount Sicker and Grace Road.
The municipality said access roads to Mount Prevost remain open to allow firefighters to reach the west side of the mountain as crews continue responding to a wildfire in the area. The public is asked to stay away from the area.

Non-motorized access is not affected, so hiking, cycling and horseback riding are still permitted.
In a statement, the municipality said the gates typically reopen in the fall after rain returns and the wildfire risk has decreased.
The closure takes effect July 9.
