BC Ferries to start cable ferry runs for Denman Island in early 2016

BC Ferries is now the proud owner of a cable ferry.

Ferries says after successful sea trials they’ve taken possession of the Baynes Sound Connector, from the shipbuilders Seaspan.

VP of Engineering, Mark Wilson says the vessel has met all expectations.

Despite the assurances, the project has faced delays and controversy as at one point the BC Ferry and Marine Workers Union was trying to go to court to get it stopped.  Others claim a cable ferry isn’t suitable for those waters.

The Baynes Sound Connector is set to start carrying vehicles and passengers to and from Denman Island in February.
