October’s municipal election is less than two months away, and some Cowichan Valley Regional District voters will have a referendum question on their ballots.
Voters in South Cowichan will decide whether to create a new funding source for studies on local issues and community services.
The Cowichan Valley Regional District says the proposed service would apply to Electoral Areas A, B and C, covering Mill Bay/Malahat, Shawnigan Lake and Cobble Hill.
A yes vote would allow the CVRD to collect property taxes to fund future studies, public consultations and community-led participation on issues identified by residents.
The annual cost is estimated at about $23 for an average single-family home.
Residents can attend information sessions about the referendum on Sept. 8 at the Shawnigan Lake Community Centre, Sept. 14 at the Kerry Park Recreation Centre and Sept. 15 at the Cobble Hill Community Hall.
All three sessions run from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
General voting day is Oct. 17.
