All active Vancouver Island wildfires under control

All active wildfires on Vancouver Island were under control as of Tuesday morning.

The BC Wildfire Service said five active wildfires were burning in the North Island and had all been triggered by lightning in mid-August.

The largest fire, west of Vernon Lake, had grown to 105 hectares.

None of the fires prompted evacuations or damaged structures.

There have been 297 wildfire starts in the Coastal Fire Centre since March 16. Of those, 266 are listed as out.

This follows the BC Wildfire Service lifting its campfire ban through most of the Coastal Fire Centre last week thanks to recent precipitation and cooler temperatures. Larger Category 2 and 3 fires remain prohibited.

There are no active wildfires in the Sunshine Coast.
