First annual Cowichan Burger Love contest tremendous success; organizer Bruce Findlay

Cowichan Burger Love has been deemed a success for Anya’s Journey Foundation after more than 4,500 burgers were sold during the event’s 31-day run.

Event organizer Bruce Findlay, owner of The Lion Rampant Scottish Pub in Maple Bay, said 65 eateries from the Malahat to Yellow Point and the west coast were invited to participate.

Only 18 restaurants took part, but Findlay said the turnout exceeded expectations for the event’s first year.

“To have businesses from basically all parts of the Cowichan Valley participate, in our first year, is unreal and very exciting,” he said.

Red Arrow owner Lance Steward said events such as Cowichan Burger Love not only bring the community together but also give restaurant operators an opportunity to work toward a common goal.

“This event shows how the Cowichan Valley community supports our restaurants,” he said. “It’s a testament that we, as operators, can all work together on this event and hopefully many other promotions in the future.”

Participating venues donated $1 from each burger sold to Anya’s Journey Foundation, a charity established to build an accessible playground at Fuller Lake.

The winner of Cowichan Valley’s Most Loved Specialty Burger for 2026 was the Cowichan Community Burger from Youbou Bar and Grill.

A total of 4,584 burgers were sold during May.
