North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP investigating two suspicious fires

An investigation is underway after two fires erupted in the Cowichan Valley in two days.

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP said officials responded to a structure fire on Festubert Street in Duncan on Wednesday, July 22, and a vehicle fire on Dingwall Street in North Cowichan on Thursday, July 23. Both fires are being treated as suspicious.

The fire on Festubert Street damaged several vehicles and two residential buildings, resulting in the activation of the Emergency Social Services to assist with residents who were displaced.

The RCMP said Island District Forensic Identification Services and the Office of the Fire Commissioner were at both scenes for examination, and the fires are being investigated by the detachment Investigation Support Team.

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP are asking anyone with information to contact them.
