Terry Fox Run returns to Evans Park Sunday

The legacy of Terry Fox will be honoured Sunday with the 46th annual Terry Fox Run in communities across the country, including the Cowichan Valley.

The Terry Fox Foundation said a local event will take place at Evans Park in Duncan, continuing Fox’s goal of raising money for cancer research.

Fox began his Marathon of Hope across Canada in 1980 after losing a leg to cancer.

Although he was forced to stop when the disease spread, his fundraising campaign has continued for more than four decades.

The Terry Fox Foundation said more than $1 billion has now been raised for cancer research.

Registration for the local event is at 9 a.m. Sunday, with the run starting at 10 a.m. Participants can walk, run or cycle two, four or six kilometres.
