Mill Bay man goes missing after leaving for cycling trip to Washington

The family and friends of a missing 52-year-old Mill Bay man are asking for the public’s help to find him.

Harold Backer’s wife, Elizabeth Hardy, says they know he left Port Angeles in Washington on Tuesday night, November 3rd, after heading over earlier in the day on the Black Ball’s MV Coho Ferry from Victoria.

She says he had his bike with him (a black Cannondale road bike). and was planning to cycle the Olympic Peninsula.

Backer, a former Olympic athlete, is six foot three, has blue eyes, grey/blonde hair and is 220 pounds. Police say he is believed to be wearing a red cycling jersey, black riding pants and possibly carrying a black backpack
