Minimum wage increasing to $17.85 per hour in B.C. on June 1

Minimum wage in B.C. will once again be on the rise this June.

The BC Government announced a 2.6 per cent wage increase will happen on June 1, raising the general wage from $17.40 to $17.85 per hour.

Minister of Labour Jennifer Whiteside said they took action last year to ensure minimum wage keeps up with the cost of living.

“Minimum wage earners are vulnerable to jumps in the price of groceries, rent and gas.”

The 2.6 per cent increase will also apply to residential caretakers, live-in home-support workers, camp leaders, and app-based ride-hailing and delivery services.

15-hand harvested crops will increase by the same percentage on December 31.

The change follows the Employment Standards Act which mandates annual wage increases.
