Conservative Bert Chen leads tight Cowichan Valley race

Cowichan Valley voters will have to wait for final results to know who will serve as the riding’s next MLA.

Preliminary results from Elections B.C. show Conservative Party of B.C. candidate Bert Chen leading with 11,099 votes, 150 ahead of incumbent BC NDP candidate Debra Toporowski, who has 10,949.

BC Green Party candidate Justin Douglas received 3,750 votes, while Communist Party of B.C. candidate James Chumsa received 100.

Elections B.C. reported 25,898 valid votes from all 87 ballot boxes in the riding.

The result remains subject to final count by Elections B.C., with more information expected once that process is complete. That count includes ballots not counted on election night, such as vote-by-mail and absentee ballots.
