BC ferries appoints new CEO, launches ‘revitalization review’

BC Ferries has removed Nicolas Jimenez as chief executive officer and appointed an interim replacement as it launches a review of ferry service.

The company’s board has appointed Brian Anderson, vice-president of strategy and planning, as interim CEO. It has also launched a “Revitalization Review” aimed at finding new ways to meet growing demand for ferry service.

“The Board thanks outgoing CEO Nicolas Jimenez for his contributions to BC Ferries and wishes him success in his future endeavours,” the company said in a news release. “A formal search for a permanent successor will follow the review.”

BC Ferries said the review will look at ways to make better use of the system and improve service delivery.

The company said the review comes as it prepares for Performance Term 7, the four-year period from 2028 to 2032 that will set limits on fare increases and establish required service levels.

“Under the Coastal Ferry Act, BC Ferries undergoes a regulatory review and contract discussions every four years to set limits on fares and establish required service levels,” the company said. “For Performance Term 7, the Board is committed to bringing innovative solutions to service obligations and working with the incoming provincial government, BC Ferry Authority, and BC Ferries’ Commissioner to ensure the system is reliable, safe, and sustainable.”
