CCTV cameras coming to transit buses

Phased installation is now underway of closed-circuit TV cameras on 24 BC Transit buses in Nanaimo.
Spokesperson for BC Transit is Jonathon Dyck says equipping the buses with the CCTV cameras will cost 65,000 dollars…..
Dyck says during an evaluation program on 83 buses in Victoria and another 25 in Kamloops, that started in April of 2015, there were 1400 incidents reported.
More than 500 of those were investigated by Transit Police or ICBC: there were 5 convictions for assault and 61 liability claims as a result.
There’s no word when, or if, the buses running in the Cowichan Valley will be equipped with the cameras.
Back in March of 2014 a bus driver on a Shawnigan Lake route was assaulted by a passenger who later pled guilty.
