A 54 year old man is in critical condition in a Victoria hospital after he was struck by a truck in downtown Duncan yesterday (Thurs).

RCMP say the accident happened during the noon hour as two local men, aged 53 and 54 were crossing the street while walking toward the Human Resources downtown office.

They were struck by a pick up truck that had been traveling at a very low speed.

The 53 year old is being treated in the Cowichan District Hospital for some broken ribs and the other man suffered a serious head injury.

North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP are still investigating and a preliminary investigation has ruled out alcohol and mechanical error as contributing factors.

The driver is cooperating fully with the investigation.

Cowichan Valley RCMP Victim Services have been offering their support to the families and those who helped to care for the injured at road side.
