The lack of water in the Cowichan Valley is becoming a glaring problem.
According to a report, the co-chair of the Cowichan Watershed Board Rob Hutchins says the situation is grave because Cowichan Lake is almost 40 centimeters lower in comparison to last year as a result of a dry spring and lack of snow pack.
In light of growing concerns, valley residents have been placed under water restrictions and Catalyst Paper has limited the Cowichan River’s flow from the seven cubic metres per second to five.
Catalyst Paper says they have slowed the river down to make sure there is enough water in the lake to last until rain become more frequent in the fall.
